01

Geography, climate and nature

Sweden is in the Nordic region of northern Europe and stretches from Treriksröset in the north to Smygehuk in the south. The Baltic Sea lies along the east coast, while Skagerrak and Kattegat are to the west. The Gulf Stream contributes to a milder climate than many places at the same latitude.

02

Indelning och befolkning

Landet brukar delas in i Götaland, Svealand och Norrland.

Regions and population

The country is commonly divided into Götaland, Svealand and Norrland. Sweden has 21 counties and 290 municipalities. Most residents live in southern Sweden and in urban areas, and the largest cities are Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö.

03

Natural resources and climate

Forests, water, agricultural land, iron ore and other minerals are important. Climate change can contribute to heatwaves, drought, forest fires and flooding. Sweden works both to reduce emissions and to adapt society to the changes.
